Leadership Coaching for CxOs & Senior Leader
“The major challenge of most executives is not understanding the practice of leadership – it is practising their understanding of leadership.” – Marshall Goldsmith.
There is a lot of excitement around the term coaching. There is also a lot of confusion and misunderstanding. In simple language, coaching is about helping a leader become more effective as a leader. The keyword here is ‘effective’. For far too long has the world focused on a leader’s efficiency.
The job of a leader is not to be personally brilliant at some things. It is about creating an environment where a bunch of ordinary people collectively deliver brilliant outcomes consistently. This will need a leader to inspire a group of people to commit to a bigger cause, help them believe in themselves, get them to reach higher, see farther, back each other, and work together. This is effectiveness. This does not come from Helping a leader become more effective in coaching. As Frances Hesselbein says ‘leadership is a matter of how to be, not how to do it. At Leadership & Grid, our focus on leadership coaching is not merely to help a leader change a few behaviours. We strive to help leaders make a positive impact in their ecosystem. We recognise that human beings are not just intelligent beings with emotions, but primarily emotional beings with intelligence. So dilemmas, questions, need for brainstorming could happen anytime for a leader. Our coaching approach, therefore, goes beyond the formal coaching session. We encourage and urge our coaching participants to call us or message us anytime, any number of times. We are absolutely happy to engage with them.
As author James Belasco says, “a productive coaching relationship begins with two people with fires in their bellies: one who wants desperately to move forward and another who yearns to help that person make the journey”.
